Global Librarian

Sissy? Sissy?!!

C'mon. You can do better.

Heck, even Lil' Sis is better than Sissy!

Go back to the drawing board and come up with another one.

PD

Well, she is only four.

Global Librarian

You cannot leave a 4 year old in charge of such matters. How do you think Picabo Street (Former Olympic skier) got her name? She named herself. When she was four. Because her favorite game was "Peek a Boo!"

You're the parent. Take charge!

Geesh!

PD

First, the Picabo Street thing is a myth. She was named after a town in Idaho, whose name means "Shining Waters" in the language of the Native American tribe that lived there. I would think a research librarian would have looked into that a bit more before trying to pass a myth off as truth.

(And before you try to cite it: She never worked in an intensive care unit of a hospital, and there was never any rule saying she could not answer the phone, "Picabo, I.C.U.". Nor was she afraid of being injured in a fall, leading to a similar newspaper headline.)

Now that we have that settled, I see nothing wrong with allowing a four-year-old to give her future sibling a nickname, if it makes her feel like more a part of the process and therefore helps ease the transition from single child. And it isn't like we can do better. Unless you think "The Shmunkin" us a great nickname.

Besides, it's not like Sissy will be new baby's actual name. That will be Rapunzel.
